Hip and Knee Treatment

Hips and knees are the body’s largest joints. They take the most damage while supporting the body’s weight and provide mobility. Injury, arthritis, or other problems inflict extreme pain. Additionally, damage interferes with the joint’s functionality and limits mobility.

OCPBC employs experts in minimally invasive procedures for hip and knee replacement and fracture care.

Dr. Juan Agudelo specializes in Anterior hip replacement, a treatment that avoids cutting into muscle. As a result, the procedure offers a shortened recovery time as well as less pain and scarring.

Kyphoplasty

The Kyphoplasty procedure is a proven method of treating thoracic and lumbar compression fractures and the incredible pain that accompanies them.

Kyphoplasty is considered a minimally invasive treatment, as it requires absolutely no incisions. A small needle injects medical bone cement into the vertebra to stabilize the bone, reducing further pain and damage. With the use of local anesthetic, the procedure takes 10-15 minutes. With OCPBC’s advanced Kyphoplasty procedure, you’ll be out the door in no time.

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

What is Platelet Rich Plasma? PRP are components in blood that are astonishingly rich in growth factors. The components present in PRP enhance the healing process by speeding it up or giving it a much-needed boost.

PRP Therapy is used when injuries show little or no improvement. The procedure uses the patient’s own blood components to stimulate a healing response in damaged tissue and works by naturally signaling to platelets and white blood cells, calling them to assist in the healing process.

Spine and Pain Medicine

The spine is an interesting collection of bones, ligaments, and tendons that protect the delicate nerves that travel from the brain to the rest of the body and allow for the motion of the body. Spinal pain is often caused by strain or damage to these muscles and ligaments.

Treatments for spinal pain include Total Disc Replacement and Spinal Fusion.

Total Disc replacement alleviates lower back pain in patients suffering from a degenerative disc disease. An artificial disc replaces the damaged originals.

Advantages of total disc replacement surgery include:

  • Protects and restores the segmental motion in the treated area of the spine
  • Preserves the foramina height and intervertebral architecture
  • Protects the discs above and below the disc replacement against accelerated degeneration
  • Restoration of normal biomechanical function across the lumbar region of the spine

Spinal fusion is a procedure where the painful vertebrae merge together so that they heal into a single, healthy bone. Spinal fusion may relieve symptoms of a number of back conditions, including:

  • Degenerative disk disease
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Scoliosis
  • Fracture
  • Infection
  • Tumor

Sports Medicine

Being an athlete doesn’t make you impervious to injury. There’s always the chance that you could suffer an injury. Sports related injuries can be especially inhibiting. If not properly treated, these injuries cause permanent damage and restrict further activity.

Dr. Matarazzo is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopy at OCPBC. He specializes in complex shoulder, hip and knee injuries using minimally invasive techniques including smaller incisions and arthroscopy.

Total Ankle Replacement

Patients suffering from severe ankle pain will find walking difficult. This pain is likely caused by conditions known as arthritis or osteoarthritis. One way to relieve the pain is through Total Ankle Replacement, also known as Ankle Arthroplasty.

Ankle Arthroplasty is a surgical option for those with arthritis of the ankle. The procedure can relieve ankle pain while maintaining motion of the ankle joint.

Total Joint Replacement

Several conditions cause joint pain, such as damage to the cartilage that lines the end of bones. This damage requires replacement.

Total Joint Replacement is a surgical procedure that involves replacing a damaged joint. Parts of a damaged or arthritic joint are replaced with a metal or plastic prosthetic. This replacement comes with the ability to replicate the functionality of the original joint. Other OCPBC Total Joint Replacement surgery procedures include Mini Total Hip Replacement and Revision Hip Surgery for arthritis relief and a number of other joint-related conditions.

Acupuncture

What is acupuncture? It’s a technique that has roots in classical Chinese medicine. While the understanding and techniques have evolved, the basic principles have remained the same throughout the centuries.

Acupuncture promotes natural healing and improves functionality. This is achieved by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at specific acupuncture points.

The modern theory is that needling the points stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals that influence the body’s natural regulating system. The improved energy and chemical balance produced results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities.

While associated with pain control, a well-trained practitioner can apply it to broader uses. It can be used in unison with other medical procedures or by itself. The World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical issues, including digestive disorders, respiratory disorders, neurological and muscular conditions, as well as urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems.
